Two Listening Sessions were held on March 3 and March 6. The intent was to listen and learn, so the Commissioners did not answer questions directly. Thoughts and ideas, as it related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, were shared.

  • What makes a community feel safe and welcoming to you?
  • What should Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion look like in our city?
  • What expectations are there for this Commission?
  • What current barriers do you see or have affected you personally?
  • In what areas is the city doing well and where do you think we can improve in regards to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion?
  • What does diversity, equity and inclusion mean to you?
  • How can a community become anti-racist?
  • What makes a community feel safe and welcoming to you?
  • What do you wish our community would do with regard to DEI topics?
  • Where do you think Mountlake Terrace is, as a community, in this DEI process?
  • What are your experiences of Mountlake Terrace as a community, currently?
  • When have you experienced discrimination in the city? How do you wish that had been handled?
  • What do you see as examples of institutional racism and/or institutional barriers in our city?
